Our skin deserves more credit than it gets. It’s the biggest organ we have and the only one we see every day. It’s also the only organ other people see and when our skin doesn’t look healthy it can be embarrassing and cause us to turn to makeup.
At 16 I had my own embarrassing skin problems. Like most girls I used makeup to cover up my issues but that causes more issues and before I knew it I was stuck in the vicious cycle of makeup and bad skin. Here’s why makeup is bad for our skin.
How Makeup Harms Our Skin

Every day, the 20,000 pores on my face were completed covered with makeup. Little did I know, makeup clogs pores and blocks airflow which enables bacteria to grow. Eventually, pores become infected and a pimple is born. Long term, makeup can do a lot of damage and lead to dry, dull and flaky skin. Our skin can’t properly take care of itself underneath layers of makeup, it needs our help!
How To Break the Cycle
No matter your skin type, your skin needs these four products in this exact order.

1. Cleanser
Washes everything off of your face and out of your pores. A good cleanser prevents many issues including, dry, dull, flaky and/or acne prone skin. Cleanse your face once in the morning and once just before bed.
2. Toner
Conditions your skin and prepares your pore to absorb moisture. Without toner, your moisturizer isn’t really soaking into your skin. Apply a damp layer of toner after your cleansing- morning and night.
3. Moisturizer
Hydrates, heals and repairs your skin. Moisturizer is the key to balancing your skin’s oil production and slowing down the aging process. Apply while your face is still damp with toner- morning and night.
4. Sun Screen
Protects your skin from the aging effects of UV rays. Hot or cold, clear or cloudy, your skin is being damaged by Ultraviolet Sun Rays. If you’re exposing your skin to the sun, you need sunscreen. Apply in the morning before leaving the house.
Put In The Work, See Results.
Makeup puts our skin in an unnatural condition. Your skin needs support from healing products that work for your skin. Most importantly, your skin needs your consistency. The great thing about skin is it heals pretty quickly and within two weeks you should see a big difference.
